Blackpool's banking on sunshine!
PHEW! It's gonna be a scorcher.
The Spring Bank Holiday weekend looks set to be a busy one for Blackpool.
Early weather forecasts are predicting good weather for the weekend, with temperatures of around 17 or 18 degrees and sunny, dry conditions.
Jane Seddon, head of tourism with Blackpool Council, said: "We have been receiving a lot of inquiries about the bank holiday and our attractions, people asking for prices, opening times and so on. With the forecast for good weather, we are hoping to have a nice, busy bank holiday weekend."
Blackpool and the routes into the town have also been named by motorists organisations as likely to be one of the UK's traffic hotspots.
The AA says Blackpool, along with Brighton and Newquay, will be one of the country's busiest seaside resorts over the Spring Bank Holiday.
It also predicts heavy traffic over the weekend on the M6, between Cheshire and the Lake District.
Yeadon Way, which has been closed for roadworks, will be re-opened for the bank holiday weekend. But roadworks on the junction between Preston Old Road and Preston New Road will still be in place.
Two of the resort's major attractions have been given an early bank holiday boost after being named among the Top 20 looked for UK destinations on the internet.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Zoo appear in the list, produced by an internet search engine, of the most-searched-for tourist destinations for the Spring Bank Holiday.
The Pleasure Beach is ranked as number 10, with the zoo at number 16.
Cesar Mascaraque, managing director of Ask.com – which produced the research – said: "We've seen a surge in searches for family days out and specific queries related to opening times, ticket prices and travel directions."
Mrs Seddon added: "We are delighted that two of Blackpool's attractions have been listed as being the most searched for, but frankly we are not surprised."
