Talbot Road gateway £220 million Approved
Well finally Blackpool Council has managed to sign up Muse Developments to construct the new 25 acre site. This is great news for Blackpool, the time scale is a bit too far off but at least the contract is signed.
This development will transform the area around North station. The plans have changed as now Wilkinsons is staying with a facelift, the bus depot will be demolished and so will the bowling centre.
Overall the plan is great news as it adds lots of offices to the town centre. OK so the financial situation isnt good but the project only starts in 2011. The offices should provide the town centre with more customers all year round.
This development also builds new law courts and a police station. Thus freeing up the space in Central car park.
Its a pity but I am guessing that all this will take about 5 years from now!!!! So first we had 2 years of South Prom development, then 5 years of South pier to North pier development with 3 years of Debenhams development, plus at a guess 2 years of Yates reconstruction. Plus one the law courts and police station have gone we should have an attraction lined up for central car park but that will take another few years.
So by 2020 Blackpool should be looking good!!!
Roll on 2020!!!

It looks so uninspiring and not a welcome to Blackpool. Mind you I have yet to see a coach station that looks nice.

+I think that area of town is very unwelcoming. First thing you see when you get off the bus /coach is the Tache. which badly needs a paint job. and the entire car park is unsightly, I for one will be glad to see the back of it . I love this town although I wasnt born here and just the fact that money is being used to dramaticly improve it is quite exciting.

The Railway station isnt much better and that will be part of the Talbot Gateway. So thats Rail and Coach visitors taken care off.
By the end of next year the Central Gateway should be finished. The Central Gateway is the bit from Yeadon Way to Central Car park. Phase 1 was from Waterloo Road to Bloomfield Road, ie. George Bancroft Park, car park landscaping and the Climbing Towers. Phase 2 is car park landscaping and road improvements opposite Blackpool Football Club.
The last bit is phase 3 this covers Waterloo road south to the Pub Yeadon Way. But wierdly it also covers from the south car park on Yeadon way all the way round the back of the pleasure beach and to the prom from just South of the pleasure Beach to South Pier.
So I dont know what the plan for that section is yet. I guess the car park will just be landscaped. But at least Waterloo Road should look better for anyone coming off Yeadon way to the prom. So hopefully they have some good plans for phase 3.

Talbot Gateway is still on track according to the latest news. It looks like there will be some council offices and four major foodstores vying for chance to invest in the area. Sound like good news at the same time with housing prices are on the up

Work seems have started as The Indoor Bowls building now demolished and I have been watching this afternoon. Shame that dingy car park is not coming down but will be tarting up.

I do wish they would hurry up and do it lol. I live just round the corner from there and cannot wait for the supermarket to be built. As I am disabled and no longer able to drive, I have to rely on Iceland, get bored with their limited stock. All the other big supermarkets are all too far away and taxi's are so expensive.
Bring it on!!! lol

I too live not far from iceland and yet I am not keen on this supermarket, only to buy milk and bread. But there is Marks and Spencer further up in church street which I go regularly.
Do you have a scooter? or Bus Pass? you then can go to Morrisons near the airport or Tesco Superstore in mereside.

M&S Is way out of my price range!!! Yes I can get to these places on the bus but cannot carry the shopping back. I do have a four wheeled trolly but even that won't hold enough to make a worth while trip. I used to use the online shop asda and tesco, but they sent stuff where the date was nearly up..
I am looking forward to having a decent supermarket close by, will make my day lol
