Blackpool Promenade Construction

If you have been to Blackpool over the last 3 years you can't fail to notice the construction work along the promenade. Basically the main project runs from 2005 to the end of 2009. Blackpool Council together with North West Development Agancy and Government are funding the £179 Million Sea Defence reconstruction. Basically Starr Gate (South) to South Pier was reconstructed a few years ago. Now it South Pier to North Pier that is receiving improvements. The sea wall is being replaced and 6 headland are being built along the promenade. These Headlands were/are to be 'The Peoples Playground' but the playground has been delayed as Blackpool didn't win funding from the National Lottery.
Anyway the new sea wall will see 'spanish steps' run from South Pier to North Pier allowing great access to the beach from a new walk way and the headlands. There will be ramped access points to assist less able people and Blackpool's Traditional Donkeys.
Blackpool has recently received funding to create an outdoor entertainment arena for 20,000 people. This will be created on the headland opposite Blackpool Tower and will have a comedy carpet as its floor.
More details of the Peoples Playground and the associated Northern Lights can be found here: http://www.northernlightsblackpool.co.uk/

I think Blackpool sea front is becoming more and more attractive by the month. No we didnt get the funding or the casino but hey!!! give it time and I think it will be something thats going to be hard to beat. Im quite proud to be around to see it all happen and hopefully be one of the many locals who will enjoy the end result.

I must say though I do think that the landaus (sp) would be far better being run on a part of the prom and get them off the road. (a) it would be less dangerous for traffic and (b) it would paint a more idilic picture of our prom. It neednt effect pedestrians if done properly.

As for the nappy thing its the horses it applies to and yes I think its a good thing. proving to be much better.

Well done Blackpool cant wait to see the end result.
