Blackpool Bowling to close!!!

The flat green bowling club just off Talbot Road (on Larkhill and George street) is to be closed on the 24th April!!!!
The bowling centre is owned by the council and is due to be demolished to make way for the New Talbot Gateway. But the Talbot Gateway isn't due to start construction till 2011.
The members of the bowling club have only been given 7 days notice that their lease has not been renewed.

It seems such a pity to deny the members the enjoyment for another 6-12 months plus the council are loosing out on rent and business rates. Seems a mad decision to me. I cant see why the council couldn't just give them a 1 month rolling lease with 7 days notice. Then the club could continue till the bulldozers need to go in.

Very sad.

That's councils for you. They seem pretty good on closing things down and demolishing things long before they need to. Here in Accrington it looks lik a war zone - in the name of regeneration. Row upon row of terraced housing has been, and still is being demolished, with very little to be seen in its place except one health centre and great swathe of derelict land full of rubble and gypsies. And don't even get me started on Morecambe Dome!
