Wanted: Entrepreneur, Business Opp. - Blackpool Discussion Forums

Note this is a private message and not that of a commercial organisation. I have recently moved to the area and am looking for a budding entrepreneur to join me in setting up our very own 68-page bi-monthly full colour community magazine.

I have a copy of my old magazine which I published which proved to be a success. Sadly I know very little about Blackpool, and without anything coming up trumps in the local job market, I am reconsidering self-employment.

Sales, graphic design, photography and editorial skills are all essential along with your own windows PC and Apple Mac loaded with Quark Xpress and Adobe Photoshop. This is a social enterprise business model which I am looking for a partner to go forward with. A realistic share of £50-£70k p.a. each is achievable.

I'm looking for someone who is community focussed and would like to make a difference, someone who is passionate about promoting local small/medium independent businesses making the subjects deliver very personal statements to their community and visitor audiences to help them achieve the maximum potential through paper based advertising. This is a very unique publication and easily saleable because of it's perspective.

Sounds interesting. Could you tell us more about the magazine? i.e what it covers, is it news or other stuff? How do you distribute, print etc.. I only ask as I am nosey

I am self employed and very busy, naff at writing and not good at deadlines so unfortunately I will count myself out.

It does sound like a good opportunity. For anyone reading what sort of effort is required? Could someone start on a sort of part time/evenings and build up? Do you have to have a mac or can a PC be used?

I don't have all the skills you're looking for so counting myself out here too but good luck, it sounds interesting. I'm planning on moving up round the Blackpool area shortly to join my partner & will be setting up as self-employed in a technical field - basically steel & ally welding & cutting. Maybe you could help us gain a bit of exposure, you'll have to let us know your rates

Hi Southportfriends, would be more than happy to help. One of my more specialized fields is graphic design and print brokering, be sure to drop me a line with any printing/design quote, I can almost guarantee to beat any quote for letterheads/business cards/leaflets that kind of thing. Just give me a try!

As of now I have no advertising materials whatsoever.. so you'd have a blank canvas to work from. I'll have a think & drop you a PM with a brief idea of what kind of service I'm planning to offer (it basically started out from my interest in restoring classic cars & has been a hobby for a few years, but recently gained a few formal welding quals so hoping to grow it).

Anyway I'm hijacking your thread here so "we return you to normal service" lol. Good luck finding a suitable partner.

I've had a little thought, and more to the point on Pete's question, ideally i'm looking for another me, i'm multi-skilled however, if theres someone out there up for a challenge who doesn't have the technical skills, someone with sales/editorial skills would be most welcome, i'll quite happily do the technical stuff. Someone who's good at number crunching, accounts that kind of thing is an added bonus too. Apple Mac only essential if it's a split role.

The role could work around an existing part-time job, essentially it's full-time work, but could be less if the individual is committed, the technical side of things can be done on a more flexible basis, though sales/photography really requires a more 9-5 commitment.

It's really a two man team, to canvass sales, design the magazine, canvass advertising & editorial, paginate the publication, proof-read, proof adverts, and spot distribute it to various outlets across the district, hotel foyers, doctors/dentists, newsagents, library, community centres, reception desks, anywhere people go really.

This is simply an open opportunity, no obligation to go forward with anything, i'm available for an informal chat anytime, it may/may not happen, but it was something I really enjoyed doing previously and it's a very rewarding job if you like to make a difference in the community.
