Seaside homes are 'best' – survey
BLACKPOOL has been named as one of the best places in the UK to find nursing and residential home places.
The resort has an average of 7.27 homes for every 10,000 residents, according to a new survey,Tony Martin, chairman of locallife.co.uk, which compiled the data, said: "Blackpool may be better known for its Pleasure Beach and nightlife, but it is also among the best catered places for care provision in the country.
"The town is not alone however.
"The majority of leading places for the supply of nursing and residential homes are by the coast.
Growing
"It seems the sea air, favourable weather and shoreline views are a big attraction for older people when it comes to their care needs."
He added: "The older generation is the fastest growing segment of the population and demand for residential and nursing homes is rising rapidly too.
"Blackpool's popularity as a destination for care is positive news for jobs in the local area.
"Blackpool doesn't suffer from being a seasonal economy like other seaside towns, but the thriving care industry will assist all-year-round employment."
A jobs boom is expected after a 16 per cent increase in demand nationally for care homes.
